The Learned Ladies at the UW School of Drama
I am looking forward to seeing The Learned Ladies later this month at the UW. The MFA students in the Professional Actor Training Program do consistently good work – they are highly trained and their hard work is evident in everything I’ve seen the program do. Costumes, sets, and lighting are all done by MFA design students, who bring so much creative energy to each production. And this play – spring is a great time for Molière’s satiric whirlwind of love and absurdity. In The Learned Ladies, Molière’s target is high-culture pretentiousness. The play is quick and witty, and ought to be very accessible to a 21st-century audience, rhyming couplets and all. Tickets are inexpensive, and support a worthwhile Seattle institution. Opening Weds 5/22, and running through 2 June.
